Kylian Mbappe’s future has become the talk of football amid sensational reports the Frenchman is unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain.
With his contract running down earlier this year, Mbappe chose to renew and snub a potential move to Real Madrid.
Now The Guardian report Mbappe is unhappy with his role at PSG and with the club’s transfers, and is seeking a January exit.
Rio Ferdinand responds to Manchester United suggestion
It did not take long before Manchester United’s name was connected with a potential swoop for the reportedly unhappy Mbappe.
England cricketer Sam Billings, a Manchester United supporter, urged for the club to ‘make it happen’ and reached out to Rio Ferdinand to suggest putting in a good word.
Ferdinand responded in humour to the suggestion, posting pictures of when he met Mbappe at PSG’s training base for an interview.
Manchester United unlikely in Mbappe equation
Of course if a talent like Kylian Mbappe was on the market, a club of Manchester United’s stature should be involved in the chase.
But we likely are not in the equation, due to the club’s recent lack of success, unless Mbappe was genuinely attracted by the challenge, and not put off by the risk of playing Europa League football.
That won’t stop fantasy suggestions like a Ronaldo and Mbappe swap deal being floated, of course.
ESPN reported in 2021 that United would be interested in Mbappe, while a report in The Times‘ in 2020 claimed: “According to a close friend, Mbappé’s interest in English football also extends to Manchester United.”
