Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was impressed with the club’s 4-0 win against Liverpool in Erik ten Hag’s first game in charge.

The Red Devils produced an encouraging performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side in our first match of the Dutchman’s tenure.

In the muggy and humid conditions in Bangkok, the Reds produced a pressing and energetic performance in the first half against our fierce rivals.

It may have only been the first game under Ten Hag, but his principles of pressing, work rate and passing out from the back were evident to see.

Manchester United already look to have an identity and blueprint under Ten Hag which is something we have lacked for several years.

The 52-year-old’s exciting brand of football looks to have resonated with his playing squad and the early signs are extremely encouraging under our fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

But it’s only one game and we cannot get carried away, but with United’s international stars only returning to Carrington last Monday, the fact that we can even pinpoint a style of play gives us cause for optimism.

United’s 4-0 win against last season’s FA Cup and League Cup winners caught the attention of former centre-back Rio Ferdinand.

The BT Sport pundit took to Twitter after the game in Bangkok, Thailand, and couldn’t hide his positivity from Ten Hag’s first game in the Manchester United dugout.

Ferdinand clearly likes what he has seen in our maiden game under the new boss, and while the outspoken former England international has spoken his mind about United’s troubles in recent years, he’s happy with what he has seen so far.
