Rio Ferdinand has ruthlessly criticised the message one Manchester United star sent after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against FC Twente in the Europa League.
Manchester United secured their place in the 2024-25 Europa League competition after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May.
The Red Devils kicked off their Europa League campaign last Wednesday when they welcomed Dutch side FC Twente to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s men took control of their Europa League opener in the first half after Christian Eriksen fired United into a 1-0 lead before half-time.
However, FC Twente rallied back in the second half and Sam Lammers cancelled out Christian Eriksen’s first-half opener to pull his side level at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s side were forced to settle for a point after Sam Lammers’ crucial equaliser, with the Red Devils dropping important points in the Europa League.

Ferdinand calls out Man Utd star
Manchester United will resume their Europa League campaign on Thursday when they travel to Portugal for their clash with Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand was far from impressed with what Christian Eriksen said after the 1-1 draw against FC Twente.
The 45-year-old United legend admitted that he would have called out the midfielder in the dressing room over his remarks if he were playing alongside him.
“Another big issue was the other day, hearing Eriksen’s comments, ‘didn’t work hard enough’ or ‘they worked harder than us’, something around those lines,” Ferdinand said on Rio Reacts.
“If you’re in the changing room and your teammate said that, I’d be saying, ‘Listen, bro, don’t be saying that type of s**t outside. We can talk about this in here but I don’t want to hear it out there.’”
Ferdinand added: “At United, I didn’t play in a team that didn’t work hard, that was out-fought. I don’t know, he might be within his rights to say that.”
What did Eriksen specifically say?
Speaking to TNT Sports after the Europa League opener, Eriksen admitted that FC Twente “looked like they wanted it more” against United in the match.
The 32-year-old United midfielder added that the Red Devils would be “mostly disappointed” that they blew their 1-0 lead against FC Twente.
“I think we’ll be mostly disappointed as a team. We obviously wanted more but it was far from good enough,” he explained.
“Being sad also in the changing room, they looked like they wanted it more than us and that can’t be right and I think personally, you score a goal and you think you’re a matchwinner but then it’s the other way.”
