Rio Ferdinand has given his thoughts on one underperforming Manchester United star and has said another player in the squad may well begin to kick up a fuss if he isn’t playing more games.

Manchester United picked up a vital 1-0 win at Craven Cottage against Fulham thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Bruno Fernandes.

One player, however, struggled massively during the contest and fans are perhaps beginning to wonder if this player’s time is running out as he continues to underperform.

Rio Ferdinand, speaking on TNT Sports, gave his verdict on Antony, the £86 million Brazilian, who continues to struggle.

Ferdinand on Antony

There was one moment in the first half that summed up his current struggles.

The former Ajax winger picked up the ball on the right-hand side and tried to drive with it before losing it to Antonee Robinson, Antony then tried to recover the ball with a slide tackle but was skipped past easily.

“I don’t know [how long Antony has] because you could smell the frustration from the fans, let alone hear it,” Ferdinand said. “He’s played 11 games this season and managed zero goals and zero assists – from an attacking player, that’s not good enough, that’s the hard fact.

“You’ve got a 35-year-old winger on the other end and if you didn’t know their ages, or their career paths and you just saw them from today’s performance, you’d 100 per cent pick Willian.

“He has to improve dramatically because when Rashford comes back, if Garnacho gets benched and Antony is starting ahead of him, he has to be scratching his head thinking ‘How is this guy ahead of me?”

Antony’s need for improvement

The winger simply has to improve otherwise he will be dropped due to his poor performances and rightly so.

Antony just does not look like a Premier League winger at the moment, he tries backheels and flicks that just don’t come off.

Alejandro Garnacho, despite his poor performance at Craven Cottage, probably does deserve a run in the team over the Brazilian.
