David de Gea made a terrible error as Manchester United lost 1-0 away at West Ham.
It’s not just his below par distribution which is the problem. David de Gea‘s usually competent shot-stopping ability let him down against West Ham.
The goalkeeper allowed Said Benrahma’s weak effort go through his outstretched palm and nestle into the bottom corner of the net.

Rio Ferdinand played alongside David de Gea at Manchester United, the goalkeeper has been at the club that long.
But there was no preferential treatment in the pundit’s comments to BT Sport, analysing the goal.
He said: “It’s a bad mistake. He will take full responsibility for that.
“His left foot does slip slightly but that’s no excuse, he’s got full contact on the ball.
“He can get a full hand to the ball, it’s not like he is stretching and getting fingertips on it. He’s got a whole hand on it. He misses it completely and it’s a big, big mistake from him.”
De Gea’s contract expires at the end of the current season a possible extension is a big talking point among supporters. Personally, I believe it is time to move on, and this latest error serves to underline that.
With that said, De Gea isn’t the only United player who should be taking blame.
Just like Luke Shaw’s mistake at Brighton, it only mattered because the team could not score at the other end.
We should be scoring two or three goals past these teams, and then mistakes for goals conceded wouldn’t matter so much.
But with clear weaknesses in attack, United simply cannot afford errors at the back, and De Gea’s mistake is highlighted accordingly.
