The latest development in the Alexis Sanchez transfer saga unfolded tonight, with one journalist claiming the forward’s transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United was a done deal.
Diego Martinez, whose Twitter profile claims he has written for March and Mundo Deportivo, tweeted earlier this evening that Arsenal had reached an agreement with Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevic, and that the move was completed.
Sanchez has been linked with a shock move to Old Trafford since the midweek when it emerged United had reportedly bid £25m for the Chile international.
It was perceived to be a tactic by Arsenal to coax City to make an higher offer in order to secure the player they have coveted for over a year, but Martinez’s claim certainly suggests United’s interest is very real indeed.
If Sanchez does sign, or has signed, for United it will be too late for him to play against Stoke City on Monday, but he would be a great addition to United’s front line. After scoring 30 goals last season for Arsenal, his form this season has been below-par. This has given some cause to question his application and while that is a very valid concern, to get one of the best forwards in the league for a respectively low fee in the current market has to be seen as good business, if, indeed, United have pulled off what would be one of the coups of the season.
