Report: Porto Rookie Diogo Dalot Could Cost Manchester United A Staggering £17.4m Transfer Fee

The name of Diogo Dalot has come out of nowhere as Manchester United look for a new right-back; and the proposed transfer fee will make eyes water.
19-year-old Dalot has made just 8 appearances for the Porto first team and United will have to pay a huge fee of £17.4m to trigger the player’s release clause.
Dalot is very highly rated in Portugal and did set up two goals on his debut but it still seems a risky move at a time when United are in need of senior talent to come in and boost their defence. Hopefully these will serve as famous last words but it seems an unnecessary risk to take and a financial outlay that would be better served somewhere else considering there is both Axel Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah who could do a job at right-back if Jose Mourinho does not want to move for a more experienced player in that position.
The other thing to note is that Dalot is right-footed and is therefore tipped to be a right-back, but almost all of his senior performances have come at left-back. He is apparently capable of working down the flanks and was linked to Barcelona and Real Madrid before United’s interest escalated.
It is suggested that Dalot will in fact become the club’s first signing of the summer. If so, it suggests that we are entering a summer where Jose Mourinho is well and truly staking his own reputation.
