Manchester United’s hopes of signing Gareth Bale are likely to be handed a huge boost, according to Sky Sports.
Bale publicly declared his discontent after the Champions League final in which he starred, prompting the speculation over his future. United have been strongly linked with a move for the Welshman for years and last summer Jose Mourinho was open about his desire to sign him.
Though Bale’s exit seemed certain, Zinedine Zidane’s resignation suddenly made it less so, with the winger willing to discuss new manager Julen Lopetegui’s plans and visions.
However, if Bale is hoping that he will be integral to the new man’s plans, he might be heading for a shock.
Sky Sports News reporter Rik Sharma has suggested that Lopetegui’s work with the Spanish national side has given an indication of how he will plan to field his club side.
“Bale will be one of the losers,” Sharma told the Transfer Talk podcast. “Ultimately, with Spain, he (Lopetegui) has always opted for more tactically intelligent than gifted players. The winners will be Isco and Asensio. He has made Isco the key player in the Spain team. It wouldn’t make any sense for him not to do that at Real Madrid. It will be an easy win for the new manager.”
It also appears to be the transfer which will make the most sense for the new manager. Bale will raise a significant fee for transfer funds to be spent – while Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be linked with an exit, his form at the World Cup almost makes it certain that Madrid will bow to the terms of the best player in the world.
