Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Real Sociedad thanks to a soft penalty given against the Red Devils.
But the penalty was only consequential because of Manchester United’s inability to score at the other end.
Real Sociedad defended well and kept a clean sheet, and had to work hard for it, with United constantly probing them without creating many clear cut opportunities.
The Spanish side were delighted to take all three points and register their first ever win over United.

Sociedad react to win
Real Sociedad defender Aihen Muñoz spoke after the game to AS, commenting: “We were very brave, we were aggressive up front.”
He was also asked specifically how he found it defending against Manchester United winger Antony.
Muñoz responded: “Covering these players is very difficult.”
Antony left the defender trailing in his wake a couple of times, and by the end, he was hacked down by the frustrated defender.
Manchester United made a substitution soon after, bringing on Jadon Sancho for a change of approach, which didn’t work either.
Manager Imanol Alguacil conceded that Real Sociedad had been a little fortunate but also felt they were deserving.
He told AS: “You had to have a bit of luck, but you have to do a lot of things.”
Elsewhere in Group E, Sheriff Tiraspol beat Omonia 3-0 in Cyprus. Manchester United visit Moldova to take on Sheriff next week.
