Manchester United U19s drew with Copenhagen U19s 2-2 in the UEFA Youth League.

The game kicked off in Copenhagen with a strong Manchester United academy side.

The big bit of news was that Kobbie Mainoo featured for United. Other notable names were Dan Gore and Isaac Aaron-Hansoen.

As for Copenhagen, the big name on their team sheet was Emil Hojlund, brother of first-team striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Copenhagen U19s 2 – 2 Manchester United U19s

The game started off at a tremendously fast pace and it took 10 minutes for United to open the scoring.

A fantastic finish from Ethan Williams made it 1-0. He shifted the ball onto his left and rifled a shot into the bottom right corner to put the Red Devils a goal to the good.

Just two minutes later, Williams was involved again. This time his cutback, from what was a shocking United free-kick, resulted in their second with Ethan Wheatly firing home from five yards.

But then it was the home side’s turn to strike. In the 22nd minute, they were given a seriously dubious penalty, which Hojlund converted with aplomb past Elyh Harrison.

The rest of the half was pretty uneventful.

The second half started a little slower, with no incidents of note until the 61st minute when substitute Malachi Sharpe rifled a ball into the six-yard box, but unfortunately, no one in red was there to tap home.

Copenhagen should have been level nine minutes later. Amin Chiakha just couldn’t convert what would have been an open net on the stretch.

A barrage of Copenhagen attacks occurred in the final 15 minutes, but it wasn’t until the 90th minute that they got the equalizer. A tap-in for Chiakha.

Hojlund goal hopefully foreshadows and Ethan Williams brilliant

Manchester United take on Copenhagen’s first team later in the Champions League and we’ll be hoping Rasmus Hojlund will follow in his brother’s footsteps.

Hojlund is due a goal and the European competition is where he’s thrived so far.

Mainoo got some great minutes under his belt, but the stand-out United performer had to be 17-year-old Ethan Williams. His early goal and assist were integral to the young Red Devils’ getting a point against the Danish side.
