Rasmus Hojlund has hit back at criticism directly towards him on social media.
The world is watching when you play for Manchester United and Rasmus Hojlund has had to deal with the responsibility of being the team’s main centre-forward, despite being in the early years of his development.
It has come with challenges and Hojlund missed the start of the 2024/25 season due to a hamstring injury sustained during a pre-season clash against Arsenal.
Hojlund has just two Premier League goals in 13 matches this season, which has led to scrutiny from sections of the United fanbase.
United signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer and the Netherlands international has failed to outscore Hojlund. This has also led to fans calling for new signings because United’s first-team is lacking an experienced goalscorer with a proven record in the biggest leagues.

Rasmus Hojlund bites back at disturbing claim over Manchester United transfer
While Hojlund isn’t the only United player failing to meet expectations this season, nobody is safe from fan criticism, especially on social media.
United players have to learn to cope with criticism but this time Hojlund decided to reply to a fan who questioned his 2023 transfer to Old Trafford.
Hojlund joined from Atalanta for a fee rising to £72 million even though former manager Erik ten Hag had made Harry Kane a primary target beforehand. United opted to sign a younger alternative than to the England captain, knowing that Hojlund was a work in progress.
However, Hojlund responded to one fan on Instagram who summarised his displeasure over the transfer on social media.
The fan in question suggested Hojlund was only able to join United due to sharing the same agency (SEG) as Ten Hag.
Hojlund was quick to reply to the individual, describing his claim as ‘disturbing’, which is just an example of some of the rubbish that gets posted about footballers.
Fans with agendas and big platforms often use social media to spread misinformation and conspiracies.
How Hojlund cost Manchester United such a hefty fee
Hojlund’s transfer to United may be another example of incompetence from the previous regime, but it would be naïve to claim the Reds haven’t got a decent talent on their hands.
The Denmark international cost United a lot of money because he was wanted by Arsenal and the price unfortunately correlated with other deals conducted by the likes of John Murtough, Richard Arnold and Ed Woodward.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
| 21 | 7 | 1 |
That is why Hojlund was right to defend himself in an attempt to squash a false story that could easily become part of a conspiracy.
United made it clear they wanted Hojlund and that’s the bottom line. They won the race to his signature by signing off competition from other European clubs.
