One of the stories of Manchester United’s season has been not managing to score enough goals.
The other big story has been the often woeful defending, at key moments, which cannot be solely blamed on an injury crisis.
Rasmus Hojlund enjoyed his best Premier League game in a Manchester United shirt against Tottenham, with a goal and assist in the first 45 minutes.
But just like with his brace against Galatasaray earlier this season, Hojlund’s positive contribution was undone by mistakes at the back. This time United settled for a 2-2 draw.

Hojlund on half-time talk
Manchester United led 2-1 at half-time, with the players going in at the break looking to protect the lead and then build on it.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund told club media after the game that the players specifically talked about defensive concentration at half-time.
He said it was frustrating, then, to concede a goal just 50 seconds into the second half.
Hojlund said: “We were talking in the break about switching off so it was a little bit annoying [to concede so quickly].”
For the players to be talking about focus, and then allowing Rodrigo Bentacur to equalise so quickly and easily, is very frustrating.
He added he was disappointed that Manchester United did not manage to win, adding: “We need to take the positives with us, again we need to be disappointed, as two times we were ahead.
“It can happen but again I think we played a great game.”
United settled for a point
Manchester United did defend well for the remainder of the half, but were unable to go and score a third goal to win the match.
Hojlund added on Instagram: “Gutted we didnt get the win today😤 always a pleasure with the support from you guys! Now time to recharge.”
United’s next Premier League game is on Thursday February 1 away at Wolves, with an FA Cup tie scheduled for January 28.
A break could do a lot to refresh this United team, and eradicate some of the silly errors we have seen.
Amid the struggle to score goals regularly, it doesn’t help when the good work from the attackers, when it does happen, is undone so easily.
