Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane has revealed that he and his Red Devils teammates have been affected by Cristiano Ronaldo‘s interview with Piers Morgan.

Just hours after United’s injury time win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening, United’s number seven went on a tirade and lambasted his current employees.

As well as claiming he’s been betrayed by the club, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner revealed he has no respect for his club manager Erik ten Hag.

Like his former Real Madrid teammate, Varane is currently out in Qatar preparing for the winter World Cup in Qatar which starts on Sunday.

But while United’s number 19 should be focused on proving his fitness ahead of France’s quest to defend the trophy, the 29-year-old finds himself being asked questions about Portugal’s captain.

Varane, who was a vital part of Didier Deschamps Les Bleus side becoming world champions in Russia four years ago, was asked by Europe 1 about the impact Ronaldo’s explosive interview has had.

The four-time Champions League winner said: “Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening and what is being said.

“We try to calm the situation in our own way, we try not to get too involved in it. What is happening in the media in the big clubs is gaining momentum.

“When it’s a star like Cristiano Ronaldo, even more, so we try to take it with distance, that is to say that we do not try to change the situation alone, we are part of a collective.

“What I want is the best for my team so whatever the decision, as a player, we will accept it and give the best of ourselves.”

Unlike Varane, Sweden’s national team captain and fellow United centre-back Victor Lindelof was reluctant to answer questions related to the 37-year-old.

When asked to comment on Ronaldo’s interview, Lindelof told Fotbollskanalen: “I won’t answer that question.”

When asked whether United had told him to keep quiet on the topic, United’s number two responded: “That’s my decision.”
