Ralf Rangnick will not be staying on at Manchester United as a consultant

Manchester United have confirmed that Ralf Rangnick will not be staying on at the club and fulfilling his consultancy role.

The German was appointed as the club’s interim boss at the end of November, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick’s three-game caretaker spell.

The 63-year-old was hired until the end of the season as the club’s first team manager, but he was also appointed on the basis of taking up a two-year consultancy role once his time in the dugout came to an end.

But Rangnick has confirmed that he won’t be staying on at Manchester United as a consultant due to the demands of his new role as Austria manager.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

Rangnick confirmed the news in a press conference on Sunday and Manchester United said: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.

“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”

The German was brought in to wrestle the tide at United with a new permanent manager being appointed in the summer.

But United finished with their worst points total in Premier League history and with a goal difference of zero.

The Red Devils finished sixth in the table and secured Europa League football next season, but that was largely thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion beating West Ham United on the final day of the season.

Rangnick’s record as interim boss was 29 games in charge, which brought 11 wins, nine draws and nine losses.

Juggling between being Austria’s national boss and taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford always looked a tall task, and both parties have decided to go their separate ways. Ralf Rangnick will not be staying on at Manchester United as a consultant.
