Ralf Rangnick is being lined up for a new job this summer, and he wants a Manchester United chief to join him.
Four years after Ralf Rangnick left Manchester United following his open heart surgery claims, the German is preparing to lead Austria at the 2026 World Cup as their manager.
Rangnick’s Austria could be dark horses, with their intense style likely to catch teams off guard if they can play this way in the heat over in North America.
However, already there are murmurs over Rangnick having another job lined up for after his Austria role comes to an end.

Ralf Rangnick wants to take Christopher Vivell to AC Milan
Rangnick had a 39% win rate at United, but he was always better behind the scenes than as a coach.
At a recruitment level, Rangnick is a genius, and had United signed the players he suggested, it might not have taken so long to get back to the top.
Now, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan are the club who are going to try to take advantage of Rangnick’s expertise by appointing him to a senior sporting role.
He is planning to appoint Oliver Glasner as head coach, while Rangnick also wants to bring United’s Christopher Vivell with him to Milan as a key figure in the recruitment team.
Vivell is United’s head of recruitment and has been impressive in this role, earning plenty of admirers.
Rangnick and Vivell have worked together before at multiple clubs, and so it shouldn’t be disregarded that he also follows him to Milan despite him having a good thing at United.
However, Vivell committed to United amid Arsenal interest in 2025, which shows he won’t be easy to pry out of Old Trafford.

Vivell’s star is rising within Manchester United
For a behind-the-scenes figure, Vivell’s importance is recognised by supporters.
Vivell was pivotal in United signing Benjamin Sesko, and his appointment has coincided with the best transfer windows United have had in years and years.
Speaking on Stretford Paddock, The Athletic’s Mark Critchley has now explained how Vivell is seen within the club.
“I think Christopher Vivell’s star is rising. I think externally there’s a view that he’s more prominent than perhaps he had been in the past, I think, and he essentially heads up the scouting operation”.
Losing Vivell would be a big blow to Ineos, considering he is so integral right now. But with the data team and other hires, it wouldn’t be the end of the world; we should just keep him if possible.
