Ralf Rangnick is being considered for the vacant post of German football’s Director of National Teams and Academy.
Olivier Bierhoff quit the role last night after a second successive World Cup group stage exit.
Kicker report Rangnick is one of the top candidates being put forward for the role.
Rangnick is currently the manager of Austria, a role he jumped into at the end of his stint as Manchester United interim manager.
Rangnick wanted by Germany
Rangnick, who hails from Germany, is regarded as an ideal strategist to lead a root and branch review.

While his last two jobs have been in management, including at Manchester United, Rangnick’s strengths lie as a sporting director.
This was the very reason Manchester United brought him on board in the first place, with the intention for him to transition into this role, as a consultant.
The plan for this to happen was eventually scrapped at the end of the season.
Rangnick has worked as a director of football at RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg previously, with great success. He also managed Stuttgart and worked behind the scenes at Hoffenheim.

Rangnick is also under consideration along with Fredi Bobic and Matthias Sammer.
German manager Hansi Flick’s job is at risk, as he was working closely with Oliver Bierhoff.
Kicker have floated the dream-ticket solution of Rangnick coming aboard and appointing close pal Thomas Tuchel as manager.
Tuchel is out of work since being sacked by Chelsea earlier this year, and even sought advice from Rangnick this summer, helping him to decline the option to try and sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
