It has been a grim start to the season for Manchester United, with lots going wrong on and off the pitch.

Just as we hoped Manchester United were turning a corner, the players went and let us down again.

A 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace was the fifth season in a row Manchester United had failed to beat the Eagles at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

All the positivity from the 3-0 Carabao Cup week in midweek quickly evaporated.

Manchester United lose again

There is lots to be angry about at Manchester United right now, from poor performances to shambolic decisions behind the scenes.

It comes amid a period where more headlines are being created on the front pages of newspapers in connection to the club, than the back.

Manchester United supporter Rachel Riley offered her take on the defeat to Crystal Palace.

She wrote on Twitter/X: “I don’t know why United fans are so down right now. No-one’s in prison and we should definitely stay up this season “

Riley has been an outspoken critic of Manchester United’s handling of issues with two players under contract accused of domestic violence. Charges against one were dropped, while none have been brought against the other.

Manchester United league position

The joke about United being safe from relegation is reflective of the dour mood right now, and while nobody believes the club will end up in the bottom half, right now we are sitting in 10th position.

We are closer to 18th place Bournemouth, just six points ahead, than first placed Manchester City, who despite losing yesterday, have 18 points, double United’s nine.

There is a long way to go, but already our objectives look like needing to be adjusted. Rather than hoping for a title challenge, it feels like a top four place would be an achievement after this start. And that’s not really a sign of progress.
