Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged Manchester United to make a key Erik ten Hag decision.
Erik ten Hag looks to be under an increasing amount of pressure as the Manchester United boss has overseen 11 defeats in all competitions this season.
A 3-0 defeat to Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth at Old Trafford led to the United players being booed off the pitch by the fans that remained, which weren’t many.
A tough week ahead awaits for Ten Hag and United and the Dutchman looks to be on the brink of losing his job. Two defeats this week may well end the Dutchman’s time in Manchester.
Murphy on Ten Hag
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Danny Murphy has questioned the Dutchman and believes United have to make a change and fast.
“The fact Bournemouth won at Old Trafford and no one is surprised tells you everything you need to know about Manchester United under Erik ten Hag,” Murphy said.
“If United want to dine at English football’s top table again, Ten Hag is not the manager to take them there.
“United just cannot compete with City, Liverpool and Arsenal with the players they have under Ten Hag. I don’t see a team that’s progressing after a good first season. I see one that’s regressing and I don’t see how that will change with Ten Hag in charge.”
Ten Hag’s time is running out
The Dutchman is rapidly losing the patience and goodwill of the United support and the disastrous defeat to Bournemouth has only increased the noise around his future.
The fixtures before the turn of the year do not get any easier for Ten Hag with the small task of playing Liverpool at Anfield next week, the same side that kickstarted the downward spiral when they beat the Red Devils 7-0.
It would be almost poetic if Liverpool were to put the final nail in the coffin of Ten Hag’s time in Manchester as really, Jurgen Klopp’s side began that spiral in form for the Red Devils last season.
