Pundit says he feels sorry for Manchester United star and lays blame at his teammate

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund looked unhappy as he was substituted off at the weekend in the win over Fulham.

Rasmus Hojlund is still searching for his first Premier League goal and he is beginning to look like the pressure is getting to him.

Hojlund did not attempt a single shot at goal against Fulham, and was starved of service. There is a wide acceptance his lack of goals is not his fault, with Manchester United scoring only 12 in 11 Premier League games.

He has shown an ability to hit the back of the net in the Champions League, with three goals in three games in the competition.

Rasmus Hojlund struggling for goals

Rasmus Hojlund has now gone a month without scoring at all, and the lack of goals does look to be grinding down his confidence.

Pundit Robbie Earle told NBC Sports: “I really feel sorry for this kid. He’s come into a team that’s dysfunctional, a club that’s all over the place at the moment. He’s not getting chances created for him – I’ll come to Antony next because he’s only my list.

“It’s a tough one for him. It’s almost like he’s going to play himself out of the side onto the bench if goals don’t come. As great potential as he has, you need a centre-forward that looks like he’s going to find the back of the net.”

Manchester United have a conundrum, with alternative striker Anthony Martial also failing to score a Premier League goal so far.

The Mail reported last week that United are looking for a striker to take the pressure off Hojlund. This was an entirely predictable situation we could have told you was coming, with quantity up front as well as quality required.

Earle criticises Antony

Antony was substituted at the weekend too after a dismal performance on Manchester United’s right wing.

Earle believes the Brazil international needs a spell out the side, commenting: “There’s no end product. If your Rasmus at the top end of the pitch, you want people out there who are going to give you an opportunity, slide you through, get to the byline, put a couple of crosses at the near post to make a run.

“He’s getting none of that. I think he [Antony] needs to sat his backside on the bench now.”
