Chris Sutton believes Marcus Rashford has it all to prove during his loan spell at Aston Villa.
Marcus Rashford made his final Manchester United appearance in December 2024 when the Reds came from behind to beat Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
Ruben Amorim dropped the 27-year-old United star for the subsequent Manchester derby clash against Manchester City last December, along with Alejandro Garnacho, who has since worked his way back into the team.
The 40-year-old United head coach made it clear that he was demanding full cooperation from his squad, nobody excluded, and Rashford was eventually shown the door.
Rashford suggested that his future was away from Old Trafford after he was axed from the United squad for the 2-1 win over City.
There was a shortage of interest from around Europe with neither Barcelona or AC Milan making concrete offers. Rashford ended up at Aston Villa as a result.

Chris Sutton reacts to Rashford transfer
Rashford’s switch to Aston Villa means he will remain in the Premier League for the remainder of the season.
According to BBC Sport, Villa have the option to buy the United loanee for £40m at the end of the deal.
Villa will pay a hefty 75% of Rashford’s wages but they are not paying a loan fee.
Rashford is under contract at United until 2028 and the player could return to Old Trafford in the summer. That will depend on whether Villa exercise their buy clause and Rashford proving himself.
Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton gave his view on the transfer, stating that Rashford has been a disrupter at Old Trafford for the past 18 months. He also stressed that the England international has it all to prove at Villa Park.
“Over the last 18 months Rashford has been a disruptor in the Manchester United dressing room – the last two managers have called him out for that. It’s up to him.
“He’s on a trial period at Villa – he’s got to get his head down and work hard.”
Manchester United win from Rashford deal
The jury is out whether or not this will be a successful deal.
If Rashford was causing problems in the United dressing room, like Sutton suggests, then United come away from this deal as winners
It remains to be seen if Rashford will be able to improve his reputation at Villa Park.
Amorim does not need any negative noise in the background and Rashford wasn’t playing games. It made perfect sense for both parties to go their separate ways.
