Jermaine Jenas has attempted to sum up the differences between Manchester United and Newcastle United following the Geordies’ 1-0 win over the Red Devils.
Anthony Gordon struck for Newcastle United with 55 minutes on the clock at St James Park but the game should have been over in the first half after a dominant display from the home side.
Manchester United looked abysmal throughout and failed to create a big chance in the game. Erik ten Hag’s side had a few half chances in the second half after realising they were on the verge of losing the game but failed to force Nick Pope to make any saves of real note.
Ten Hag will have to go back to the drawing board with his team selection but the performance, in a game of huge importance, will be of concern.

Jenas on United
Speaking on TNT Sports, Jermaine Jenas gave his verdict on United’s struggles in Tyneside and attempted to highlight the differences between the two sides.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder praised Newcastle’s fight and their willingness to back each other up but when he was asked where it went wrong for the Red Devils, Jenas didn’t hold back.
“Looking at the Manchester United team we saw tonight,” Jenas began, “poor attitudes all over, complaints, moaning when things aren’t going their way and they deservedly lost.
“Yes, they had a bit of a go towards the end of the game but Newcastle thoroughly deserved the win, they were by far the better side.”
United’s attitude problems
Anthony Martial was spotted having a difference of opinion with Ten Hag in the first half before the French forward was taken off in the second half for Rasmus Hojlund.
That example is just a microcosm of a bigger problem at Old Trafford, attitudes just do not look quite right at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford was guilty of this in the second half when he failed to track a marauding Tino Livramento when the right-back charged down the touchline.
This problem needs fixing and fast otherwise, Ten Hag may well find that his job will be on the line if these performances continue.
