After a difficult summer, the loss on the south coast only whetted the appetite for journalists to suggest there was crisis at Old Trafford.
Whilst not quite ‘the biggest game of his career’ as some journalists have tried to make out, this is nonetheless a crucial game for United and Jose Mourinho in terms of showing their spirit and regaining some momentum.
In order to do so, Mourinho is reportedly set to ring the changes in terms of personnel and system.
Although United failed to control the game at Brighton, they did look good in midfield against Leicester City, leaving Mourinho with a poser. He has been concerned with the form of all of his defenders and is set to make huge changes there.
It means that Ashley Young, Victor Lindelof, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial could all find themselves dropped to the bench, with Mourinho changing from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3. In order to achieve some defensive stability, the United boss is prepared to play Nemanja Matic as an emergency centre-half.
Antonio Valencia is set to return as a right wing-back and Chris Smalling is in place to replace one of United’s under-fire centre-halves. Alexis Sanchez will play from the left after overcoming a slight knock.
Predicted team :
Bailly, Matic, Smalling
Valencia, Fred, Pogba, Shaw
Rashford, Lukaku, Sanchez
