Mason Greenwood is now becoming a bit of a regular in the Getafe lineup, but his performance at the weekend won’t have done him any favours for the La Liga side.
Mason Greenwood has been back playing again for Getafe since his arrest in January 2022 led to his hiatus from football.
He was sent by Manchester United on a season-long loan on deadline day of summer 2023 and since then he’s been in and around the first-team squad for the Spanish club
He has been greatly welcomed by their fans. Although he didn’t paint himself in the best light as Getafe drew 1-1 with Real Betis at the weekend.

Greenwood performance against Real Betis
Mason Greenwood was unproductive in the 78 minutes he had on the pitch for Getafe.
The English forward clocked up some horrendous stats, which led to a quite shocking 5.9 rating on FotMob.
- 32 touches
- 14 times possession lost
- 0 successful dribbles
- 2 shots off target
- 11 passes
- 5 duels lost
- 0 goals
- 0 assists
There isn’t anything positive there to cling onto. Greenwood failed to have any direct impact for Getafe and made sure his goal tally remains stuck on one.
He also had only been involved in one assist and his 5.9 rating brings him up to an average of 6.51 for the season.
This was Greenwood’s third start, and there should be some context about his lack of football over the past two years, but this game wasn’t a forward step aside from simply clocking up minutes.
Many fans will be enjoying this downfall
Lots of Manchester United fans were certain Greenwood would head to Spain and absolutely smash it. This certainly doesn’t look to be the case. Overall, he really hasn’t impressed.
Naturally, after being out for almost two years, it will take him some time to adapt back to the pace of professional football, but thus far he appears to be struggling.
Many fans will also be quietly smug about this, believing Greenwood fortunate to get another chance in a top European league.
