Bruno Fernandes was the hero on his birthday for Portugal as he scored a wonderful goal in Portugal’s win over Slovakia.

Portugal faced a stubborn Slovakia side, with birthday boy Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant solo goal what broke the deadlock and ultimately won the game.

Bruno started the game for Portugal but opened the scoring just before half-time in the 43rd minute.

The win all but ensured they would qualify for the Euros next summer, with a five point buffer now between them and Slovakia.

The win also saw Portugal maintain a 100% record in qualifying boasting a tremendous +15 goal difference.

Portuguese press react

Bruno not only scored the goal but was also clearly the man of the match as he continues to be Portugals main man.

He ensure their perfect record in qualifying which leaves them with an easy few months now before the Championships begin.

A Bola gave out player ratings following the record breaking win over Slovakia. Bruno was given a 7/10, which made him the joint man of the match.

Portuguese outlet Record, in an article dedicated to the finish, hailed the United captains goal. They said the goal was thanks to an “inspired move by Bruno Fernandes.”

While MaisFutebol titled a piece “Bruno Fernandes’ beautiful goal in Slovakia” and included a video of the brilliant finish.

Another Portuguese publication, A Bola, described the game as “grey” but referred to the national team as fighting “tooth and nail” to defend Bruno’s goal.

It adds praise on the near assist from Bruno to Cristiano Ronaldo, explaining the United midfielder’s pass was “perfect”.

Bruno continuing his productive start to season

Bruno played his fifth game for club and country of the season tonight against Slovakia.

Already, he is notching up the goal contributions once again.

He has a goal and an assist in the Premier League already, now he’s added a goal on international duty.

This leaving him with three G/A in just five games, it’s already shaping up to be a brilliant season again for our magnifico.
