Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was outstanding once again for Portugal last night.
Earlier this week Portugal manager Roberto Martinez lauded Bruno Fernandes as a ‘dream’, the Manchester United star backed it up.
Fernandes scored one goal and provided an assist in a 5-0 win away to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
With qualification for Euro 2024 already wrapped up, it was not essential for Fernandes to play, but Martinez went with his strongest side, and saw his team wrap up an easy victory.
Portuguese media praise Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United fans were impressed with Bruno Fernandes’ display, and the feeling was echoed by the Portuguese media.
This qualifying campaign has been a very successful one, with Portugal reaching the finals with a 100 per cent record. Fernandes has been a key part of their success.
Mais Futebol writes: “The first reference that stands out in qualification is Bruno Fernandes. The Manchester United midfielder has emerged as the team’s most influential player in this campaign, a statement that translates on the field and also in the numbers: he has five goals scored and eight assists and is, in fact, by far the player with the most passes for goals among all those competing to qualify for the European Championship.”
ZeroZero rated Fernandes performance an 8/10, adding: “The number eight continues to show why he is one of the best players in the Portuguese team.
“With another goal and an assist, the Manchester United athlete is the brains of the entire Portuguese operation. In defense, in attack, in midfield. He’s everywhere.”
Publico praised the way Fernandes scored his goal, commenting: “the third, by the Manchester United midfielder, was a rocket.”
Bruno Fernandes confidence restored
It has not been a great start to the season for Bruno Fernandes at club level. He has flashed quality at times, and scored the winner away at Burnley, but there has been more bad than good.
United need him to dominate games, and bring his Portugal performances to club level.
These games and praise will have lifted his confidence, and he will now return to Carrington to prepare for the games ahead.
