‘Play striker’… Man Utd star wants to see teammate change position after win v Chelsea

Manchester United star Scott McTominay is now Manchester United’s leading goalscorer for the season.

With Rasmus Hojlund saving his goals exclusively for the Champions League, Manchester United need a few other players who can score.

It is just as well then, that Scott McTominay is on course to enjoy his best-ever scoring season to date.

McTominay has six for the season, matching his tally from a year ago already, and on course to shatter the seven goal tally he scored in 2020/21 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Scott McTominay to striker call

Many Manchester United fans have debated whether Scott McTominay should play as a striker.

Now teammate Sofyan Amrabat is saying it too.

Speaking in an interview with MUTV after the game, Amrabat was asked what he thought of his midfield partner.

He said: “We change job and he should play striker,” before adding of his teammate’s brace, “It’s fantastic.”

Manchester United should actually try this

While some of Scott McTominay’s goals come courtesy of him arriving late in the box rather than being a target man, the academy graduate certainly knows where the net is.

One of the reasons Manchester United fans have debated this, is due to concerns over how much McTominay actually brings aside from his goals.

Against Chelsea he completed only 21 passes, for instance, and created no chances.

That’s fine if he is scoring the goals which win the game, but when that does not happen, you can’t get away with it as much.

Sticking him up front as striker could take some pressure off Rasmus Hojlund, and would be preferable to seeing Anthony Martial up there too.
