Phil Jones has finally revealed why he had been at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground after being released in June.

The club decided that Phil Jones was not going to be offered a new contract and he has since struggled to find a way back into professional football since that decision.

The English defender appeared on the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup final and confirmed he would be leaving United after 12 years at the Old Trafford club.

The former United defender was spotted recently at Carrington observing the under 18s.

The Englishman seems set to retire from professional football, as no club has come in with an offer for the defender who has majorly struggled with injuries.

Jones, who posted on his Instagram, has finally put an end to the speculation about whether he would be coming back into the United fold as a coach.

“Start of a new journey,” Jones wrote on his Instagram.

“Great to begin the global football sports directorship course with the PFA business school, learning new things about the game, whilst also continuing to push ahead with my A license and badges at the club that gave me so much. Excited to get started.”

Jones can pass on experience

The English defender struggled in his last few years at the club with injuries and always seemed likely to be released from the club following the expiry of his contract under Ten Hag.

Jones will now be working on getting his A license before embarking on his coaching career.

It’s fair to say that Jones’ career experiences will make him the ideal coach and he will be able to relate to the players he coaches, and also has the trophy-winning know-how to garner respect from a dressing room.

In addition to making 229 appearances for Manchester United, he also played 27 times for England, and was part of the World Cup squad in 2018.
