Manchester United are one of the strangest sides in world football to support at the moment.
Following the midweek result in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, fans felt rejuvenated and optimistic for the season ahead. The Red Devils played some superb football and were comfortable 3-0 winners against Roy Hodgson’s side.
However, things couldn’t have been much different in the Premier League repeat fixture. Erik ten Hag‘s side were woeful and fans were brought right back down to earth as they were handed their fourth loss of the league season.
Nevertheless, there is still hope. Some players did show glimpses of quality, including one man who did the best he could under the circumstances.

Peter Schmeichel on Rasmus Hojlund
Peter Schmeichel had really positive reviews for Rasmus Hojlund despite the loss.
“I would say he was involved in 90% of what was good about the Manchester United side,” Schmeichel told the Premier League’s Goal Rush panel.
“The problem is that the team hasn’t had a real number 9 for a very long time, so It will take time for them to get used to it. He makes the right purchases, he remains patient, but he is not served properly.”
An interesting take
Schmeichel’s take is probably correct. United really haven’t had a consistent number nine leading the line under ten Hag, so a period of adjustment will be necessary to get him firing.
This is down to the other players, but what is positive is that Hojlund himself is already finding these spaces.
Hojlumd has just the one goal so far, with his toe-poke against Bayern Munich – but he’s definitely had positive effects on the games he’s featured.
Once the team learns how to correctly use the 20-year-old, the goals will come flooding in… hopefully.
