Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Manchester United are “coming back” under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.

The Spaniard has been impressed by the impact the former Ajax manager has had at Old Trafford since taking the reins and becoming the club’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since 2012-13, in what was the legendary Scotsman’s last season in charge before retiring.

We haven’t won a trophy since Jose Mourinho guided us to Europa League glory in 2017, but Guardiola believes there are signs that Manchester United are building to challenge for the biggest prizes in club football once again.

Having recovered from starting the season with back-to-back defeats and then being battered 6-3 at the Etihad at the start of the month, Guardiola has revealed that he’s been keeping an eye on United’s impressive renaissance.

Speaking via The Athletic, the four-time Premier League winner said: “I have the feeling that United is coming back.

“Finally! United is coming! I saw signals yesterday (when they beat Sheriff Tirsapol) and in the game against Chelsea in the first half.

“I thought ‘I like it’, what I see from United just now.”

While Guardiola’s City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have gone toe-to-toe with one and other over the last four seasons, the twenty-time league champions have been scrambling to consistently qualify for the Champions League and have been miles off the pace set by our fiercest rivals.

We haven’t really threatened to mount a serious title challenge in the post Fergie era, but having worked with Ten Hag during their time together at Bayern Munich, Guardiola is well aware of the qualities the Dutchman possesses.

Ten Hag said in his unveiling as Manchester United manager that he was ready to end Klopp and Guardiola’s reign at the top of English football.

Judging by the Spaniard’s comments, Ten Hag’s opening months at the Theatre of Dreams have not gone unnoticed.

In the nine years that Sir Alex wasn’t in the dugout Manchester United became a fallen giant, but with Ten Hag at the helm, Manchester United fans are believing and dreaming once again that glory days are on the horizon.

The Reds will be looking to extend our unbeaten run to eight games with a win against West Ham United at Old Trafford later today.
