Manchester United would still be gagging to have a player like Paul Scholes in their side.

One of the all-time Manchester United greats, Scholes had it all. He is still known as one of the greatest players of all time and is widely respected in the football community.

He retired in 2011, after a long illustrious career at Old Trafford which spanned over 18 glorious years.

He faced some unbelievable talent over the years, but none better in his eyes than Andres Iniesta.

Andres Iniesta sends message to Paul Scholes after acquiring shirt

Andres Iniesta took to Instagram on Wednesday to put up a post which depicted the Spaniard acquiring a signed Scholes shirt. The former Barcelona man was ecstatic with this gift, and wrote in the caption:

“Thank you so much to my friends for getting me a signed and personally dedicated shirt from a player I have always greatly admired, Scholes! Thank you Paul.”

Manchester United would have been lucky to have been graced with a player like Iniesta.

The Spaniard was arguably the world’s best midfielder during Barcelona’s dominance period. He started the Champions League Final in 2009 against the Red Devils and picked apart one of the great Sir Alex Ferguson sides.

He really is a legend of the game, who remarkably at 39, is still playing in the Middle East for UAE Pro League club Emirates.

Paul Scholes responds

Scholes, a keen Instagram user himself, took the time to respond to the ageing playmaker. He wrote: “That’s the closest my shirt has ever been the @AndresIniesta8. What a player,” with a love heart emoji.

Scholes has a lot of time for Iniesta. In fact, Scholes has previously said in an interview that Iniesta is the greatest player he ever got to face.

Two undeniable icons of the game, who have mutual respect to show it. They’d still probably both do a job in Erik ten Hag‘s midfield to this very day.
