Paul Scholes talks up impact Christian Eriksen is having on Manchester United

Christian Eriksen has clearly won over new manager Erik ten Hag, with the midfielder starting every Premier League game this season so far.

The 30-year-old is playing a key role for the club and was named by Gary Neville as Manchester United’s man of the match against Arsenal..

Another member of the famed Class of ’92 is also highly impressed. Paul Scholes was the latest to talk up the Dane, who signed for United on a free transfer this summer.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Scholes hailed Eriksen’s vision, and ability to make his teammates better players.

Scholes talks up Christian Eriksen

Eriksen provided the assist for Manchester United’s third goal, but arguably his biggest impact came for the first goal, with an incisive forward pass to Bruno Fernandes splitting the Arsenal defence open, before Marcus Rashford and Antony combined to score.

Scholes told Premier League Productions: “Forwards know whats coming. They know they’ve got a midfield player who’s thinking about them, even before the ball comes.

“He’s always scanning the pitch and he’s always thinking about going forward. I can’t tell you how important it is you have that as a number 10, as a wide player.

“If you don’t have that, you’ve had the players we’ve had in there, who are always going back, always facing backwards, their [the forwards] movement’s a waste of time

“You see Bruno [Fernandes] so clever to get in spaces behind the midfield, but you need someone to find him. And Christian Eriksen has certainly got that.

“For a number 10 to have any influence on the football game, they need a midfielder with that kind of quality.”

Eriksen was always going to be good value on a free transfer, but some feared he would simply be coming in as back-up to Bruno Fernandes, in a Juan Mata type role.

This couldn’t be further from reality, with Eriksen showing he can play deeper, and alongside Fernandes.

Erik ten Hag has been determined to make the pairing work, unwilling to deviate from the plan despite the bump in the road against Brentford, and deserves credit for the way he has got United’s midfield clicking.
