Paul Scholes sends warning to Erik ten Hag over error Man Utd star is making ‘quite a bit,’ it happened vs Fenerbahce

Paul Scholes has told Erik ten Hag that a Manchester United star did not do one thing “enough” after the Red Devils dropped points against Fenerbahce.

Manchester United have managed only three points from a possible nine in their opening three Europa League matches of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw against FC Twente at Old Trafford in September before picking up a 3-3 draw against Porto in Portugal earlier this month.

United were reunited with former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho for the Europa League clash against Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Thursday evening.

Erik ten Hag’s men took control of the first half after Christian Eriksen broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, with United taking the 1-0 lead into half-time.

United’s hard work was undone in the second half after Youssef En-Nesyri scored the crucial equaliser for Fenerbahce and cancelled out Christian Eriksen’s opener.

Scholes takes aim at Man Utd star

Andre Onana, who was one of the standout performers for Manchester United in Turkey, was left helpless for Fenerbahce’s equaliser in the Europa League.

Former Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin was able to cut inside before floating a superb ball into the box for Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

En-Nesyri wedged himself between Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez and was able to fire home a close-range header past United No 1 Andre Onana.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Paul Scholes was critical of Diogo Dalot for allowing Allan Saint-Maximin the space out on the flank to cut in on his right foot.

“I think Dalot’s guilty of that quite a bit,” he said, as per the Metro.

“You know exactly what Saint-Maximin is going to do in that situation.

“He [Dalot] needs to show more urgency, get out to him because you know they’ve got a dangerous player in the box.

“It’s a great ball in and he’s not going to miss from there, but Dalot doesn’t do that enough.

“He’s been okay, one of the better players for United this season, but he needs to get that side of his game right.

“You have to stop that at source otherwise they’re going to score because he’s a real threat.”

Ten Hag on Fenerbahce equaliser vs Man Utd

United resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they travel to the London Stadium for their clash with West Ham, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time.

Speaking after the Fenerbahce match, Erik ten Hag expressed his disappointment at how United provided so much space for En-Nesyri’s equaliser on Thursday evening.

“It was a good game, two good teams, both went for the win,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We want to win and when you are 1-0 up in a tough away game, after a first half where you have control and we had some good chances to make a second [goal], then you concede a goal like we did, that feels bad.

“The first ball was played in our block, that cannot happen. Then one cross has come in and then a goal, that shouldn’t happen.”
