Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has placed the spotlight on one key moment from the Red Devils’ 2025-26 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim has already experienced both the highs and lows with Manchester United in the early stages of the current Premier League season.
United have been unable to secure back-to-back Premier League wins under Amorim since the 40-year-old Portuguese coach’s arrival from Sporting CP in 2024.
The Red Devils are currently 10th in the Premier League table and United have managed to win three of their seven league matches under Amorim so far.
But Amorim has had to overcome fierce criticism this season, including after United’s humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Paul Scholes sends a clear-cut message about Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was able to breathe a sigh of relief going into the October international break after his side returned to winning ways.
The Red Devils were in action at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and United secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League.
Amorim has been unable to escape the criticism around him in recent weeks, including the noise around his tactical system that he uses at United.
The Red Devils head coach has refused to pivot on his tactics and Paul Scholes insisted that Amorim will ‘never’ budge on his tactical blueprint at Old Trafford.
“He’s just got to the point now where he’s said it that often [not changing his tactics],” he said on The Overlap.
“If he does it, he can’t. He just can’t.”
Paul Scholes singles out one moment that shows the problem with Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd tactics
Ahead of United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland, the Red Devils had slipped to a Premier League defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last month.
Brentford comfortably beat United 3-1 at home and Scholes believes that Bees boss Keith Andrews showed the exact need to shift tactics when it is necessary.
“I tell you a prime example,” Scholes continued.
“You talk about changing systems and where you play and all this rubbish. But when they play Brentford away, Keith Andrews changed his system to win a game.”
The 50-year-old United legend added: “And they beat them 3-1. You can’t carry on, if you carry on the way we are, losing games every other week, there’s only one way it’s going.”
United will face fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield in the post-October international break before hosting Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
