Paul Scholes made a stunning admission that he “wouldn’t mind” seeing one Premier League club owner running Manchester United ahead of the Glazer family.
The Glazers completed their takeover of Manchester United in 2005 and the Red Devils’ owners have been ruthlessly criticised by fans for the last two decades.
United’s majority owners acquired the Premier League club as part of a £790m takeover, including loading the Red Devils with an eye-watering debt of £525m.
The Glazers have previously flirted with the idea of selling the Red Devils, but the American family has remained in charge at Old Trafford since their acquisition.
Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner of United back in 2023 after he secured an initial 27.7 per cent stake as part of a £1.25bn investment.
The 72-year-old British billionaire’s deal for United, which was ratified in 2024, allowed Ineos to take control of football operations at the Premier League club.

Man Utd legend Scholes on ownership
Manchester United have struggled in the 2024-25 campaign under Ineos and the Glazers ownership, with ex-Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag sacked last October.
Ruben Amorim has replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout and is attempting to see out the rest of the season as United manager.
United languish in 13th place in the Premier League table and Ineos have faced criticism over their cost-cutting spree and rising matchday ticket prices.
The Red Devils are not alone in their struggles this season, with Tottenham currently 14th in the Premier League table and they are two points behind United.
Speaking on ‘The Overlap Fan Debate,’ Paul Scholes pushed back on a Tottenham fan saying that Spurs could progress forward without owner Daniel Levy at the helm.
The United legend asked: “Why does it have to change with Daniel Levy? Why hasn’t it changed with the manager and getting the right players in?”
Scholes would then double down by claiming that he would prefer to have Tottenham owner Daniel Levy at Old Trafford amid the Glazers’ ownership.
“You know what? I wouldn’t mind Daniel Levy at our club now,” he said on The Overlap.
Ratcliffe remains firm on Man Utd decisions
Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously pushed back on United’s difficulties since Ineos took over and defended the “unpopular decisions” made since his arrival at Old Trafford.
“Manchester United has become mediocre,” he told United We Stand last December, as per ESPN.
“It is supposed to be one of the best football clubs in the world.
“We have to make some difficult and unpopular decisions. If you shy away from the difficult decisions, then nothing much is going to change.”
