Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has hammered his old side for giving up in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.
The Reds were still in the game at half-time at the Etihad Stadium when trailing 2-1, but Ralf Rangnick’s side were blown away in the second half.
Pep Guardiola’s side looked streets ahead of the Red Devils and the gap between the two sides alarmingly looks to be growing.
Scholes gave credit to the reigning Premier League champions, but gave a scathing assessment of where the red half of Manchester are currently at.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Scholes said: “City are a brilliant team so we have to give them credit.
“It felt like United surrendered second half, in terms of the effort they put in – they looked punch-drunk and they were battered by City.
“It looked like they just gave up and they were really deflated. But give City credit, they’re a brilliant, brilliant team.”
At one stage in the second half, the possession stats showed that Manchester City had 92% which is frankly embarrassing.
There was a glaring lack of fight, desire, passion and character from the United side who waved the white flag and simply rolled over against their fierce rivals.
We face an uphill task finishing in fourth place and on today’s evidence the case for a complete reboot at the club only grows stronger.
