Paul Scholes gives his instant verdict on Man United’s damaging 4-3 defeat to Copenhagen

Paul Scholes has given his thoughts on Manchester United’s 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen as their future in the Champions League looks to be on a knife edge.

Manchester United had a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead but they ultimately succumbed to the pressure from the Danish side and suffered a defeat and are now bottom of their Champions League group.

A sign in the home end read ‘Your theatre of nightmares’ but for 30 minutes, United were dreaming and looked set to pick up a huge 3 points in their race to qualify but the defeat now looks to be a killer blow for their hopes of qualifying.

Well, ex-United midfielder Paul Scholes has given his verdict on the defeat and has cited the same old issue that has cropped up again.

Scholes on United crumbling

Speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes seemed almost speechless after the game.

“Every time United get their noses in front they can’t seem to hang on to the lead,” the former United midfielder said. “Dalot was asleep at the back post for their third goal but after that, there were just no leaders in there who would calm his teammates down and get United through it.”

Similar to the defeat against Galatasaray, United collapsed after leading in the game and this is becoming a common theme for the Red Devils, especially in Europe.

The Danish side would have picked up a point at Old Trafford last month but were denied by Andre Onana in the dying embers of the game.

United’s hopes fading

For a brief, worrying moment Galatasaray had scored at the Allianz Arena but the goal was ruled out for offside. Nevertheless, the Red Devils are facing the tough task of needing a win against Galatasaray at all costs.

Bayern Munich won the game against the Turkish side so United are just a point from second place but judging by how the Red Devils coped in Denmark, their chances of victory seem slim.
