Paul Pogba had complained during the international break he did not have a fixed role at Manchester United.
Quite how he expects the club to build around a player who refuses to commit his future, is anybody’s guess.
Pogba was back in United’s line-up against Leicester, having been a substitute in the previous game against Atletico Madrid.
It was not one of Pogba’s better games. Like the match against City, United lined up without a striker and looked to Pogba to provide some attacking punch.
The Frenchman was hooked midway through the second half, having failed to make an impact. United drew the game 1-1 with Fred scoring the goal.
Pogba sent a message out after the game, re-affirming United would not give up in the quest for a top four place. But it is increasingly looking like a lost cause.
It is good to hear United’s player want to fight for the cause, however, what we saw on the pitch doesn’t really match up.
Pogba failed to create a single chance during his time on the pitch, which sums up how he struggled to leave an imprint. We have seen what he is capable of, with his four assists on the season’s opening day demonstrating the peak of his powers.
The optimism of that 5-1 win over Leeds has well and truly evaporated, and did so a long time ago. Few would have thought then, how badly United’s season would unravel.
Here we are in April and the season feels like it is already over.
