Manchester United face West Ham United this weekend and ahead of the game, Paul Merson has made a bold prediction.
Manchester United exceeded everyone’s expectations last weekend – holding Liverpool to a 0-0 at Anfield has felt like a win considering the circumstances.
The win halted a two-game losing streak but it doesn’t get any easier for Erik ten Hag over the Christmas period – with West Ham and Aston Villa the next two fixtures.
The 0-0 was a solid result for United and has alleviated some pressure which had been growing on Ten Hag following a run of three losses in four – he got several key decisions correct against Liverpool.
Now ahead of this week’s trip to London on Saturday in the early kick-off – Paul Merson has shared his prediction on the game.

Paul Merson predicts Manchester United vs West Ham
Merson shared his weekly predictions article on SportsKeeda in which he has tipped a four-goal thriller to take place.
“Wow, this one is a game and a half, isn’t it? You don’t know what you’re going to get with either of these two teams. Take West Ham for instance. They go to Europe and win, go to Tottenham and win and then get hammered by Fulham in the next match. Then they win against Freiburg and Wolves only to get pummelled by Liverpool in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
“I think Manchester United performed excellently away at Anfield last weekend. If Arsenal went to the Etihad and put in a display like that, we’d be singing praises all day.
“The Hammers will score goals and I think Manchester United will cause problems as well. Both these teams can be really poor or really good on their day.
“This game is really tough to predict and I am going to go with a draw.”
Manchester United need the attack to step up now
It’s really getting a little ridiculous the lack of numbers the forward players are putting up at United this season – it’s time to change that.
Rasmus Hojlund have zero Premier League goals while Alejandro Garnacho has one, then Antony also has none.
Marcus Rashford has the most for a United forward in the league and he only has two – so it’s high time the forward’s step up to be counted and contribute.
Against a side who will give United all the chances in the world on the counter-attack, goals are definitely on the cards here.
