Paul Merson predicts United v Brentford, calls for ever-present star to be dropped

Paul Merson has given his prediction for Manchester United v Brentford, in which he has tipped one United star to be dropped.

Writing in his weekly SportsKeeda predictions article, Paul Merson has tipped Casemiro to be dropped after a poor mid-week display, with Sofyan Amrabat at the ready.

“Why would you bring in Amrabat only to play him at left-back? That decision cost Ten Hag a Champions League game.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they left Casemiro out here – you’ve got to give Amrabat a chance in midfield. They left him out to dry against Galatasaray – it’s a waste of time and it shouldn’t be happening.”

While dropping Casemiro is unlikely, Erik ten Hag has huge decisions to make ahead of the game which is must-win.

Merson predicts United v Brentford

In his predictions column Merson expressed his concern for both sides as he struggled to see who wins here.

“I worry for both of these teams. Brentford have got a few injuries, but so does everyone else in the Premier League at the moment. I look at them and wonder where they going to get a result.

“Galatasaray aren’t the greatest team in the world, but they wreaked absolute havoc at Old Trafford this week. Ten Hag has got big calls to make – they keep doing the same things and getting the same results. They’ve lost four of their last five games and are smashing every negative record at the moment.”

Finally after detailing why he’s made his pick, Merson settled on both sides getting a point with a 1-1 draw.

“I want to pick Man United here, but it’s so hard to back them at the moment. They’re hard to watch and defend terribly, and I think they could draw against Brentford.”

Our view on a must win game

While we don’t think Casemiro will be dropped given his near undroppable status in the side, we do expect wholesale changes as the boss searches for a result.

Therefore, expect multiple big names to be dropped in favour of youngsters and bench players, which could include Bruno Fernandes who looks absolutely exhausted.

United should – with should being the key word – have enough to overcome Brentford who have been struggling themselves. But it is so difficult to call these days.
