Paul Merson aims cheap dig at Man United star Marcus Rashford in two-word social media post

Paul Merson couldn’t resist a needless dig at Marcus Rashford on social media after Noni Madueke’s hat-trick for Chelsea.

Marcus Rashford is one of the most talked about players in the Premier League – ultimately that is something that comes with being one of its biggest stars.

The 26-year-old is constantly under a media spotlight and the criticism comes thick and fast when he is not in great form.

It is only two games into the new season and already United’s No.10 is being mocked on social media.

Admittedly, Rashford is coming into the new campaign off the back of an extremely disappointing season where he only scored eight goals in all competitions.

With Ineos now at the helm, there is a growing feeling that this season could be one last chance for Rashford to impress before they look to offload him.

But Rashford has made a slow start to the season and is yet to open his goalscoring account after missing big chances against Fulham and Manchester City and having a goal chalked off vs Brighton.

Paul Merson aims dig at Marcus Rashford

While United and Rashford were still low from their defeat to Brighton, Chelsea claimed their first win of the season with an emphatic 6-2 win over Wolves with Noni Madueke scoring a hat-trick.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson took to social media to celebrate Madueke’s hat-trick, but he did so by aiming a dig at Rashford.

Merson posted “Just saying” on X, formerly known as Twitter, accompanied by a photo that pointed out that Rashford has not scored a Premier League hat-trick in 274 appearances while Madueke netted one in 35 games.

A pointless comparison

It is not the first time that Rashford has been compared to a rival team’s winger, and it’s not the first time he has come out on top.

With 83 goals to his name, Rashford is closing in on the 100-goal landmark in the Premier League, whereas Madueke has… nine.

There is no doubt that Rashford has improvements he must make this season, but the truth is that very few wingers can come close to his scoring record.
