Patrick Dorgu was sent for his first early shower as a Manchester United player this week.
The 20-year-old Danish wing-back joined Manchester United during the January transfer window.
Patrick Dorgu was quickly thrown into Ruben Amorim’s team because of his preferred position’s shortage of options and quality.
United spent the first half of the season – under Erik ten Hag – deploying Diogo Dalot at left back because of injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Amorim wasted no time addressing that issue and Dorgu has already been a vast improvement at wing-back.
Dorgu had a night to forget on Wednesday when Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford. The former Leece starlet was involved in Ipswich’s opening goal after a breakdown in communication with Andre Onana.
Later on in the first half, referee Darren England went to the pitchside monitor after VAR called for a review of Dorgu’s challenge on Omari Hutchinson. The referee eventually issued a red card for the reckless challenge.

Patrick Dorgu agent reacts to first Manchester United red card
In his fourth appearance for United, Dorgu received his first red card for the club and the second of his professional career.
Dorgu’s dismissal forced Amorim to make a personnel change after United were reduced to 10 men. It meant Alejandro Garnacho was sacrificed for Noussair Mazraoui.
Former referee Dermot Gallagher backed the decision for Dorgu to be sent off after mistiming his challenge on Hutchinson. It has been discussed on TV, radio and online but the player’s agent has finally broken his silence on the matter.
Kings Ogbodo, who represents Dorgu, took to Instagram to share a supportive message for his client. It read: “What unlycky night that was, thanks be to God no injuries recorded. The process and mindset remains unchanged. It’s all part of the game. We love this game.”
Dorgu will miss three games through suspension, including Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Fulham.
Dorgu back in action next week
Dorgu faces a three-match suspension which will see him miss games against Fulham, Arsenal and Leicester City.
The suspension only applies to domestic competitions – Premier League and FA Cup – so he will be available for next week’s Europa League tie against Real Sociedad.
At least Dorgu doesn’t need to wait too long to get back amongst the action.
Dalot is likely to return to left wing back when United host Fulham this weekend.
