Patrick Dorgu admits Man Utd released one of his favourite players ever

Patrick Dorgu was one of three Denmark internationals in the Manchester United squad when he joined from Lecce last year, but following a year of changes, he is now the only Dane playing for Ruben Amorim.

It remains to be seen if Patrick Dorgu will fulfil his potential at Manchester United.

In recent weeks, with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo absent due to AFCON, Dorgu has been utilised as a winger rather than a wing-back.

One of Dorgu’s biggest gifts is his versatility and ability to play on either flank, as seen when he scored in United’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The wing-back has made 19 appearances for United this season and is fully expected to start on Sunday when the Red Devils travel to face Leeds.

At the age of 21, Dorgu will be happy with the opportunities he is getting at Old Trafford, even if some of his Danish friends have been left behind.

Patrick Dorgu hails Christian Eriksen as Denmark legend

Christian Eriksen was one of the players that said goodbye to United at the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The 33-year-old spent three years at United, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but his better years were spent at Tottenham and Ajax.

That explains why Eriksen holds the record for the highest number of appearances for the Denmark national team.

The former United ace is also third in the ranking for Denmark’s top scorer, after scoring 46 goals in 147 appearances.

Dorgu has uploaded a TikTok video to social media of a challenge where he answers questions while juggling a football with his feet. It may even be a sign that we could start to see more social media challenge-related content from the United star in the future.

When asked to name a Danish legend, Dorgu picked Eriksen even though he was let go by United at the beginning of the season.

Dorgu also revealed that his favourite left-back ever was Marcelo and says he would rather win the Premier League over the Champions League.

Christian Eriksen stats for Wolfsburg

Most United fans agreed with the decision to let Eriksen’s contract run down.

The veteran was past his best and didn’t have the legs to play in midfield at the highest level.

Although it took Eriksen a bit longer than expected to find a new club, the Dane has made 13 appearances for Wolfsburg this term, with 12 of those coming in the Bundesliga.

Eriksen has yet to score a goal for his new club, but that hasn’t stopped him from registering three assists for his teammates.

That shows Eriksen has remained a creative spark this season but United are hoping to use 2026 to revamp their midfield department.
