Patrice Evra reacts to Marcus Rashford’s performance for United v Arsenal

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has taken to Instagram to state he’s “proud” of Marcus Rashford after yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal.

Eddie Nketiah’s goal in the 90th minute ended a ten-game unbeaten run for Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils.

The agonising defeat at the Emirates saw Mikel Arteta’s Gunners move 11 points ahead of the twenty-time league champions with a game in hand.

While a title challenge was never expected in Ten Hag’s first season at the helm, a win against the league leaders would have put United firmly in the mix.

But after conceding a late equaliser against Crystal Palace four days prior, the defeat against Arsenal all but ends brief talk of the Busby Babes being contenders for the crown this season.

United took the lead in North London through yet another stunning strike from man of the moment Rashford.

After nonchalantly nutmegging Thomas Partey, Rashford left his England teammate Aaron Ramsdale with no chance as his dipping effort from distance, which silenced the Emirates, flew into the bottom corner.

It was Rashford’s first goal away from home against Arsenal and it took his tally for the season to 17 goals across all competitions.

Having already picked up a booking for cynically scything down Rashford with a scissor kick challenge, Arteta took no chances and brought Ben White off at half-time.

United’s number ten is petrifying defenders with him being in the form of his life, and after failing to extend his goalscoring streak in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, Rashford will be hoping his strike against Arsenal is the start of another lengthy run.

United’s former captain Evra showcased his love for Rashford by commenting “proud of you” on the 25-year-old’s latest Instagram post.

Ten Hag’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to the City Ground on Wednesday for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest.
