Patrice Evra has revealed a hilarious encounter that one of his former Manchester United teammates had with ex-Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

The 43-year-old Frenchman arrived at Old Trafford in 2006 after Manchester United signed him from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco for a reported £5.5m deal.

Patrice Evra became a key defensive figure under Sir Alex Ferguson and the former United left-back had a prolific playing career at Old Trafford.

The United legend lifted five Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and three League Cups under Ferguson before the Scotsman retired in 2013.

Evra played another season at the club after Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford as United manager, with the Frenchman making his Red Devils exit in 2014.

The former United and France full-back played for Juventus, Marseille and West Ham after his time with the Red Devils before he retired in 2019.

Evra on ex-Man Utd teammate and ‘problem’

Patrice Evra made an appearance on Tea With Me with comedian Shane Todd and the Manchester United legend opened up about his life on the pitch and off it.

The former France international touched on United’s 3-0 win over East Belfast-based side Glentoran in a friendly match in 2007 at The Oval.

Fraizer Campbell scored for United in the match before Evra added United’s second, with Red Devils cult hero Nani netting his side’s third against Glentoran.

Shane Todd, who is a United fan, revealed that he attended the match and claimed that Anderson produced “one of the best performances” he had ever seen.

Speaking on Todd’s podcast, Evra said of Anderson: “It was but he just loved McDonald’s.

“But he could have been. I was always telling him and he would say, ‘Patrice, when I see the big M [sign], it is like Christmas.’ True story.

“Seriously, he is one of the most talented and gifted but he had some problem with his weight.”

Evra talks Anderson and Ferguson story

Anderson arrived at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson after the Red Devils signed him from Portuguese side Porto in 2007.

The 36-year-old former Brazil and United midfielder made 181 appearances for the Red Devils and Anderson scored nine times and registered 20 assists for the club.

Evra recalled one “true story” where former United manager Ferguson confronted Anderson about his eating problem and his ex-teammate didn’t hold back.

“I remember one day I was with Ferguson and Ferguson says, ‘Anderson, come here,’” he added.

“He said, ‘Ando, I’ve spoke with the doctor, you need to eat healthy’ and whatever.

“Then Ando just asked the gaffer, ‘How much you earn in pay a week?’ Ferguson was like, ‘What?’

“He said, ‘Maybe when I have the same salary I am going to start eating salad.’ True story.”
