Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly made a decision around the future of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to stand by United’s decision about keeping the 21-year-old forward firmly away from Old Trafford according to a report from The Guardian.

Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United contract runs until 2025 but he will not be permitted to reintegrate into the squad after his loan at Getafe, leaving the club open to selling him next summer according to the report.

The Englishman looked set to return to the first team fold before a leak from The Athletic led to such uproar amongst the fanbase that in the end the club made a U-turn on their decision.

It now seems his future lies away from Old Trafford with Ratcliffe making a big decision over his future.

Greenwood’s omission

The report, referencing Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision for the future, states that the 21-year-old forward is not part of Manchester United’s plans moving forward.

Greenwood has made five appearances out on loan at Spanish side Getafe and scored his first goal for the club in the 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo.

A report from The Sun stated that Greenwood was keen on continuing his stint in Spain and he wanted to make his loan move permanent.

Since then, Champions League outfit Sevilla are reportedly now interested in the English forward according to The Mirror.

United’s right decision

It was certainly a controversial start to the new Premier League season for Erik ten Hag when United’s plans for the academy graduate were seemingly leaked to the press.

United, belatedly, performed a U-turn which, by all accounts, was the right decision from the club but the way in which they went about it with the leaks to the media was certainly not.

Richard Arnold, United’s chief executive, has since had to field questions about the handling of the forward.

With Ratcliffe set to take over the reins at Old Trafford, bringing back Greenwood would be a major PR own goal, and it makes sense he would want to cut ties.
