Gary Neville raves over Liverpool star who reminds him of Eric Cantona.

Everything is going Liverpool’s way this season and they’re on course to take the Premier League title away from Man City.

Liverpool moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League after beating Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday, giving them a greater lead over second-placed Arsenal.

It doesn’t help that Manchester United are not competitive enough to stop that from happening, but Ruben Amorim’s quest to get the Reds back to the top has begun.

The only way Liverpool can be stopped in the league at this point is if they collapse of catastrophic proportions.

United fans need to be patient because Rome wasn’t built in a day.

It’s more difficult when rivals like Liverpool and Leeds are having positive seasons while watching United can be a real struggle this term.

The same applies to Gary Neville, who has to cover Liverpool matches for Sky Sports and NBC Sports, even though he’s a huge United fan.

Gary Neville compares Mo Salah to Eric Cantona

Even though Neville is a United fan and former player, the 50-year-old often tends to be favourable in his commentary towards Liverpool.

The reason for that is Slot’s side are doing most things right every week. They even get results when they don’t play well, which is the sign of a title-winning side.

Neville singled out Mohamed Salah for his match-winning performance in Liverpool’s win away to City on Sunday.

“He’s [Mohamed Salah] at the top of his game he’s a different level to anything else in the league this season in terms of his performance levels and he is world class,” Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“Liverpool obviously will be desperate to try and keep him. He’s one of the very best players that the Premier League has seen. That’s 11 games this season that he’s had a gaol and ana assist in each game, it’s amazing, absolutely amazing.”

Neville went on the compare Salah’s influence at Liverpool to the impact Eric Cantona had on United’s success during the 1990s.

He added: “Van Dijk is special, Alisson is a great goalkeeper, and they’ve got other good players in the team.

“But I think that when you’re a player who’s sat back there in your shape for 90 minutes, and Van Dijk and Konate did it really well today, you always have to be most grateful for the player who goes and wins you the match, because that’s the most difficult thing to do and the most special thing and that’s what Salah and gone and done.

“In my first title season at United, Cantona scored single goals and you just thought, ‘that’s the difference player, the player who just delivers at the most challenging moment, at the crux of the season when the title is on the line when you’re playing against the best teams.’ Who is going to stand up and win you the match? And that’s what Salah is for Liverpool.”

Mo Salah’s frightening record against Manchester United

Even on his worst days, the last player United would want to come up against now is Salah.

It’s a fixture Salah relishes because he is both scored (13) and assisted (6) more goals against United than any other player in Premier League history.

Those 13 goals are the most Salah has recorded against any Premier League club.

United won’t face Liverpool again until next season because they are no longer in the FA Cup.
