One Manchester United player has featured in the WhoScored team of the week after the Red Devils recorded a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
After the 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, the pressure was beginning to build on Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman’s loss to the East Midlands side was the 14th of the season.
A strong side was fielded by Ten Hag during the Fa Cup game against Wigan Athletic and the Red Devils won comfortably in the end thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes.
The game should have been over by half-time with United squandering chance after chance to put the game to bed.

United star named in Team Of The Week
Well, the Red Devils recorded an expected goal rate of 4.26 and should have scored a couple more goals purely for confidence reasons but failed to put the ball in the back of the net.
One man who was key for the Red Devils was Fernandes and the Portuguese midfielder was named in the Team Of The Week following his influential performance against the EFL League One side.
Fernandes completed 6 key passes for the Red Devils, completed 88 per cent of his attempted passes and completed two big chances during the game.
Despite the struggles of his teammates, the United captain deserves praise as he has been one of the more consistent players for the Red Devils this season.
Wigan’s goalkeeper Sam Tickle also made it into the WhoScored Team Of The Week, testament to his performance and United’s wasteful finishing.
- Sam Tickle 8.12 (Wigan Athletic)
- Pedro Porro 8.80 (Tottenham Hotspur)
- Ruben Dias 7.70 (Manchester City)
- Thomas O’Connor 8.65 (Wrexham)
- Marcus Tavernier 9.34 (AFC Bournemouth)
- Pascal Gross 8.38 (Brighton & Hove Albion)
- Phil Foden 9.18 (Manchester City)
- Bruno Fernandes 8.51 (Manchester United)
- James McAtee 9.64 (Sheffield United)
- Julian Alvarez 8.16 (Manchester City)
- Joao Pedro 9.29 (Brighton & Hove Albion)
Fernandes’ performances
The Portuguese midfielder was appointed captain of the Red Devils, three and a half years after he joined the club from Sporting Lisbon.
Since then, he has received criticism for his performances but has really stepped up for the Red Devils in recent weeks and he deserves credit.
In a campaign that has been so disappointing, the 29-year-old continues to be a player they can rely on and he deserves the plaudits for another good performance.
