Omari Forson suffers major blow on loan at Monza one year after quitting Manchester United on free transfer

Omari Forson quit Manchester United a year ago to try his luck in Italy. It has not been a huge success so far.

When Kobbie Mainoo scored his impressive winning goal for Manchester United against Wolves in early 2024, many forget that it was Omari Forson who supplied the pass.

Forson later played in the FA Cup semi-final, and Erik ten Hag even selected him ahead of Amad as a starter in a Premier League game against Fulham.

As the 2023/24 season reached a conclusion, Amad overtook Forson, forcing the academy prospect into a tough decision.

Forson turned down the offer of a new contract, and also snubbed offers to remain in the Premier League, choosing to sign with Monza, who had just been promoted to Serie A.

Relegated Forson undergoes surgery

Omari Forson’s spell in Serie A turned out to be a tougher transition than the former Manchester United winger wanted.

Monza were relegated to Serie B after finishing in 20th place, winning just three games out of 38.

Even more frustratingly, Forson has begun this season on the sidelines due to injury.

Now, in a statement released by the club, it has been confirmed that Forson has undergone surgery on a knee problem.

“The arthroscopic right knee surgery for a meniscal injury undertaken by Omari Forson has been successfully completed. The operation was performed at CUF Porto Clinic in Portugal.”

Omari Forson’s numbers for Monza

Omari Forson now faces a spell on the sidelines while his side attempt to win promotion back to Serie A. They are currently ranked 11th in Serie B after three games.

Last season difficult for Forson, despite his high hopes, where he played only 11 games. This included only one league start.

There is little argument to suggest Forson would have been better off staying at Manchester United, but his lack of progress so far is also unlikely to make the Red Devils regret his decision to walk out on them.

Still only 21, Forson has time on his side to deliver on his potential, and a step down to Serie B might work in his favour. But first he needs to get back on the pitch after his surgery.
