Manchester United youngster Omari Forson has been nominated for an award and it is thoroughly deserved.

Omari Forson has been nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month Award, after his superb performances for Manchester United’s academy sides.

Forson would be a deserving winner. He has regularly made an impact, scoring in three different competitions already this season.

This week he scored in the UEFA Youth League, adding to strikes in the PL2, and EFL Trophy.

Omari Forson is the joint leading goalscorer at academy level with striker Joe Hugill. While Hugill has added to his tally via the penalty spot, all of Forson’s goals have come from open play.

Forson has scored six goals in six games in all competitions, averaging a goal every 78 minutes.

Further to this, Forson has provided two assists, including one in the UEFA Youth League.

The young winger has added a consistency to his game. After just a few weeks, he is two-thirds of the way to his tally of nine goals the whole of last season.

Omari Forson’s form is extremely interesting amid the playing time first team boss Erik ten Hag afforded to him in pre-season.

Forson featured in six of eight games, and although he did not really make a strong impact, simply being part of it was a huge learning experience for the youngster.

The 19-year-old has been back with the academy teams, while still training with the first team, and he was on the substitutes bench at the Allianz Arena last month when Manchester United took on Bayern Munich.

After featuring with the first team, it can be a mental adjustment to ‘drop down’ to academy level. Erik ten Hag will be delighted with the way the teenager has responded.

Forson’s form is sending Ten Hag a message, showing he is ready if he needs him. Amid the issues at the wing position, it is not impossible that Forson gets a call.

If he doesn’t, then he will be a prime candidate to head out on loan in the January transfer window.
