Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United chief executive officer Omar Berrada has shown the mentality of Ineos’ regime amid one player’s future at Old Trafford.
Omar Berrada has been a key figure for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos at the Red Devils after the Moroccan-French businessman was appointed to the CEO role in 2024.
The Manchester United figure had impressed at the City Football Group and played a major role behind the scenes at Manchester City before his arrival at Old Trafford.
Berrada took over as United CEO after Richard Arnold stepped down from the Premier League club in 2023, following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of his stake in United.
Rio Ferdinand has now admitted that Berrada is an example of the ruthless mentality that Ineos is deploying at Old Trafford amid his reaction to one star’s situation.

Rio Ferdinand uses what Omar Berrada said at Man Utd amid the transfer situation around Andre Onana and Trabzonspor
Andre Onana is now set to leave Old Trafford after the ex-Ajax and Inter Milan star lost his place as the Manchester United No 1 under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.
Turkish side Trabzonspor have been linked with Onana and the 29-year-old Cameroonian shot-stopper has agreed a loan move away from the Red Devils.
Onana has struggled to impress at Old Trafford after being brought to the Premier League club from Inter Milan under former United manager Erik ten Hag in 2023.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand believes that Omar Berrada’s powerful comments in the past relate to the situation around Onana’s future.
When asked about the ‘debate’ around the future of Onana, he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents: “Debate?! You think it’s been a debate?”
“I think Omar [Berrada], who is running the football operations at the club, I think he’s made the point that they’re not going to have players sitting around that are not worthy of being at the football club anymore.
“They’re not going to have players that either aren’t good enough, haven’t performed well enough or are not the right people to be at the football club. He’s not going to have them around like bad smells.”
Rio Ferdinand shows the change that Man Utd fans are now experiencing ahead of Andre Onana’s transfer to Trabzonspor
The Turkish transfer window remains open until Friday and Andre Onana could make his Trabzonspor debut against Fenerbahce on Sunday if the deal is finalised soon.
Onana’s future at United was further plunged into doubt after the Red Devils signed Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens on deadline day from Royal Antwerp.
United legend Ferdinand believes that the tide is turning at the Premier League club with what United fans have to put up with when it comes to players at Old Trafford.
“I think, for far too long, we’ve had that at the football club,” he continued.
“We’ve been forced to keep players because of bad financial situations that the club have put us in with players and we’ve had to keep them here, sit with them and had to suffer some of these players.”
Onana missed United’s pre-season due to injury and the Cameroon international has been playing second fiddle to Altay Bayindir in the early stages of the new season.
